Sandoz, a Germany-based company that deals with generic and biosimilar medicines, announced on Friday the immediate United States availability of generic Ferumoxytol, an intravenous medicine intended to treat iron deficiency anaemia.

The product is a generic equivalent to AMAG Pharmaceuticals' Feraheme (ferumoxytol injection) and is approved to treat iron deficiency anaemia in adult patients who have an intolerance to oral iron or have had an unsatisfactory response to oral iron, or who have chronic kidney disease.

The company initially plans to offer its generic Ferumoxytol medicine to patients in the hospital and clinic setting.
