Healthcare company Abbott (NYSE:ABT) announced on Monday that it has officially opened its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, Ireland.

The site will produce FreeStyle Libre 3 sensors, Abbott's latest generation continuous glucose monitoring sensors for people with diabetes.

Abbott's Kilkenny facility is part of a EUR440m investment in Ireland, which also includes an expansion of its Donegal site. More than 800 people will be employed at the Kilkenny site.

The facility is designed with sustainability in mind, using renewable energy sources and water conservation measures.
