Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda (TSE:4502) (NYSE:TAK) announced on Monday that it has entered into a multi-year collaboration with the Indonesian government to strengthen the country's plasma ecosystem, following the Ministry of Health's grant of a plasma fractionation licence to the company.
Takeda will invest up to USD30m in an initial two-year phase to establish plasma donation centres, evaluate a national plasma donation network and support workforce training using international quality and regulatory standards. The company will also assess the feasibility and regulatory requirements for a plasma-derived therapy manufacturing facility in Indonesia to serve domestic and international markets.
The first plasma donation centre is expected to open in 2027 as part of Takeda's BioLife plasma centre network, with plasma initially processed through the company's existing global manufacturing network while prioritising Indonesia's domestic needs. The collaboration aims to strengthen healthcare resilience, expand access to plasma-derived medicinal products, and enhance Indonesia's biopharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.
