Japanese electrical products manufacturer TWINBIRD Corporation (TOKYO:6897) on Tuesday announced the SC-UF25 Ultra-Low Temperature Portable Freezer, a compact 25-litre unit capable of reaching −86 degrees C, with commercial release scheduled for November 2026.
The product expands the company's portfolio of Free-Piston Stirling Cooler technology, using helium gas as a refrigerant to support ultra-low-temperature storage and transport of research samples.
Designed for laboratories and life-science organisations, the SC-UF25 offers temperature adjustment from −86C to −20C in 1-degree increments, low-vibration operation and compatibility with 100–240 V power supplies. The freezer aims to reduce reliance on dry ice, improving temperature stability and operational efficiency in cold-chain management for regenerative medicine, cell therapy and drug discovery research.
The product incorporates precision components manufactured in Japan's Tsubame-Sanjo region and is designed for use in laboratories with limited installation space.
TWINBIRD will showcase the SC-UF25 at MEDICA 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 16 to 19 November, highlighting its potential for research and laboratory cold-chain applications.
The company stated that the freezer is intended exclusively for research, laboratory and life-science cold-chain use and is not registered under the EU Medical Device Regulation or intended for clinical or patient-care applications.
